a personal, mobile information- and navigation system which can be in interaction with architecture.
on basis of my research the following became my topic:

a short description:
invention of a personal, mobile information- and navigation system, which can be in interaction with architecture. the architecture supplies the necessary data to this system. the system adjusts the uploaded information with the needs of the user and supplies the desired information. a network architecture and the
integration of various communication forms (e.g. virtual ones) are
conceivable. the system is my personal representative which helps me to find information and enables new ways of communication.

what i´m even doing – only some headlines:
i´m now processing and visualizing the respective points.

• the network
each attached network unit can be accessed. that means, these can be identified by a code or a kind of IP address. so these can be addressed. communication takes place after the input and the autonomous analysis
of the desired parameters. these parameters also can be generated by the device itself.

• differentiation of the information resources
- global network
- specific network
- city or current environment
- specific building
- own building (homebase)

• how the data is developed, which the building make available
- input of the plans (navigation and oriantation)
- independent detecting of the inherent resources such as goods, humans...
- independent detection of humans and things
- possibly a autonomous determination of room functions by various sensors
  (temperature, person fluctuation, energy consumption, air composition...)
- resource data base

• example scenarios in various building types:
- homebase
- office buildings
- authority
- hospital
- services company
- airport (and other passage architecture)
- industry
- universities and research
- hotels
- restaurants
- retail trade
- public buildings
- various private architecture

• the device (interface and personal representative)
- how is the information represented
- how is the information stored and administered
- which personal information of myself can be mentiont into the informationoutput.
- which possibilities of communication (e.g. virtuall ones)

the substantial aspect: the information transfer and the communication between architecture and humans.
last week i mainly was occupied with the question, what to do with the information generated by architecture.
i thought about the information resources and data emergence. i considered, what i could do with the data the architecture supplies. at first i thought about me and the specific building and in the second step i thought about networks and structures. then i considered about functions and structures for the mobile interface. for example about the data acquisition for the generation of personal profiles and i contemplate possibilities of the device type and the pertinent device functions. then there were considerations about the form of data input and output. further i considered example scenarios and application possibilities in diverse building types.

precisely because i currently know, that the topic i made to my bussines, could have plentifully substance, i now will reduce my global investigation and will be concentrated on the substantial aspect, so the common denominator:

the information transfer and the communication between architecture and humans.

in the first step it is perhaps (or also at all) better to abstract and also to generalise architecture as much as possible. the basic forms of architecture are generally the same and also the internal structures can be simplified to a all in denominator. thus they can be turned around in the reverse from the abstracted into the special and specific.
a project-aim nevertheless could be a simulation of the system at a real instance space or building...but it also could be a virtual simulation or a projected "ar"... we´ll see, anyway it is and will be exciting.

the fourth dimension of architecture - the virtual counterpart
last week the following was part of my project. a short summary:

after i got a general overview about the possibilities and the capacity of my project, i back-broke the subject in a next step on the core-statement again. the information structure of a building can be divided into the following areas:

1. communication
communication between the architecture and their users, and communication between architecture. therefor i extend the architecture by a fourth dimension (a virtual one), by which these communication- and control processes takeplace.
2. information the informing of the user or inhabitant. the architecture is in the know of its internal struktures and things and also its environment exactly (positions of resources and humans...). this information structure is fed by many diverse sensors, plans and data bases.
3. orientation
the building is constituent and crosspoint of a network architecture. the visualization of the navigation system is not static, but it can be adapted by the respective user profile. orientation is made by the fourth dimension of the building, thus by its virtual counterpart.
4. interaction and control
architecture is in interaction with its inhabitants. it can be controlled by the needs of the inhabitants or by the desires of the present users.

the further procedure is the following:
i ´ll play through three example scenarios and will represent them visually.
1. i´m in a certain architecture ...
2. i want haunt a certain building and i´m on the way to it ...
3. i´m not in a certain building and i´m also not searching for it ...

with each of these three scenarios many different versions are possible. in
order to limit these possibilities and to give them a foundation, i´ll apply
them on a special building and on a special environment structure.

i´ll certainly think about the fourth dimension of architecture:
• how does the structure appear
• how does the integration takes place, in order that a homogeneous structure with the physical architecture
   
is developed
• which effects has the system on the physical architecture? would it change or mutate?

the question: a concrete instance room, or a simulation in an abstract space. abstract of last week :
i looked for a example strukture, on which i could simulate the scenarios of my system best. this structure ought to implement various application areas, e.g. :

• complex building structure
• possibly a single system of a big system
• public accessible areas
• closed , internal areas
• possibilities of an active building management
• high frequentation (many humans)
• retail trade structures
• service structures
• high number of internal structures and systems
• outer building structures (parking lots, exterior installation, binding to traffic routes)
• existing databases and sensors

as a example structure i selected the new lufthansa first class terminal at frankfurt airport. at frankfurt airport there besides are already some more rough-and-ready tries to offer the user some functions mobile. (e.g. check in by mobile phone, or flight plan download on pda...)

in mine example i limited the group of building users on the customer. i divided the use-type of the building into three areas:

1. i´m en route to this building
2. i´m in this building
3. i´m not in this building and i´m also not searching for it

i noticed now, if i would continue the project on the basis of such an special instance space, i would be quite constricted in my trains of thought. i would have to act in pursuance with the available resources, and i perhaps would think more close to reality and less revolutionary. therefore i will keep my project more open and therefore i´ll not simulate it at a so concrete instance space. i´ll better take an abstract space (which could also be a real one for simulation purposes) into which i can assemble the possibilities, resources and systems.

thus i´ll be occupied in the next time, to which areas and possibilities i´ll limit the system and how a simulation could look like. besides i´ll still further think about the interface.

concentration on one aspect
i finally have limited the instance space on a fictitious one. a room, in which functions and resources can be implemented by me. the fourth dimension of this space is connected with the sensors and data bases of the real space and thus can inform in real time about it. the space sends a data mask to the interface, which is analysed by the respective system. for a simulation i´ll select a special area of communication with the building. – perhaps the people, because they are the ones that make a building living...

by now, because my system now is limited on one aspect, i can begin with the configuration and finalize this point.

the rough framework for the system/tool simulation
the rough framework for my „mobile architektur-information-tool“ is now ready. for a simulation Ill device the range from person information - because humans are the ones make a building living and they are the ones we want to reach in a architecture...

with three data packets, conclusions can be drawn on the present use of architecture. so the user who wants to reach these architecture can be informed.

these data are:
• person data (which persons are in the architecture) - these information are sent via bluetooth by the    respective mobile devices to the server
• acoustics - which noises are produced by humans or machines
• network activity - (web traffic) generated by the immanent persons

these data will be processed by the server and are transmitted via bluetooth to the mobile interface.

in order to visualize the status of the architecture, the data-list will be transformed into a shape which can be sent to the mobile device (mobile phone). so also a time-flow course of the architecture activity can be read off very well. - (see screens in lower side).

creating the visualization component in processing

at the meoment i´m mainly occupyed with the visualization component of the architecture - information tool which i´m createing in processing.
it compromises:
• network activity (identification of the active network user by sender IP)
• acoustics data (frequencies)
• quantity (which is supplied by the „bluetooth-server“ ) this components will be integrated to a meaningful    shape.

furthermore i got a contact to siemens from a computer scientist, who already was occupied with mobile phone applications. so i interpellate to siemens for the appropriation of mobile phones, in order
that we can test our tool.

a fourth item to draw conclusions: movement in space the profile of architecture was extended by an fourth item. a webcam registers the movement in the space, which then is transfered like the other data (person's number, acoustics, network activity) into a shape. now more exact conclusions on the present space use are
possible. however, the form item is still a prototype and must become more intuitively readable.
besides it would be an advantage to determine the quantity of the displayed values more exactly. this always regarding the small outer mass of the interface (on our test mobile phone 132 x of 176 pixels).

it is alive...
in the course of last week i have concretized the shape more and more. the maximum values are now limited because of the legibility and clarity. besides i have developed a coding on the basis of which the number of the present persons can be read off. furthermore the persons can be determined exactly over a color coding. also the network activity can be personalisiert exactly. now i can say exactly, who causes how much trafik. for creation a history the shape is now rotatable, and old shapes will be displayed in the background. (this version is only for the history not for sending to a mobile device.) however i had considerable difficulties thereby, to save the old shapes - so the "old" shapes remained just still alive... thereupon wolfgang has intervened and helped writing a list into which the old values are saved...

look at the folder screens for a description of the present shape. i have simulated a short room-situation which perhaps could occur. this certainly is not such meaningful as recording a real situation, but perhaps enough for understanding...

         

simulation of a persons fluctuation during 25 minutes

with the upper 25 screens you can observe what happend. first nobody was in the room. during the first 5 minutes 4 established users entered the room (yellow, green, red and orange rings) then some unknown people (marked with the turquoise shape behind the colorfull ones) and the blue and violet one came in. then 6 unknown people entered the room and for a short time the dark blue one. then step by step all people leave the room. at minute 12:28 there is the highest movement and perhaps a great hullabaloo cause of leaving. during the whole sequence different network aktivities, acoustics and movements are noticeable. ... but this is only a simulation for understanding the shape - the colour codings especially the ones coding the network traffic are not synchronal with the present people, because the network i sniff is constantly used by considerably more people. for this reason there is also traffik noticeable caused by people out of the present room. but later this amplitudes aren´t commented by a colored line. in case of this there are anyhow colored lines viewable which doesn´t agree with the coloured rings in the middle. this is due to the fact, that i have traked arbitrarily IP´s from the network. understandably the red lines are really right, because they where caused by me...
